Reuters report

After the Long Grant was dragged out, why did he stay in Egypt for so long? Because it is talking about the"ship quality" of compensation .

Earlier, the Suez Canal Authority once asked for 900 million US dollars in compensation, including an outrageous US$300 million "famous loss fee" and a US$300 million "salvage bonus . They detained the Long Grant with the cargo and people in the Great Bitter Lake in the middle of the Suez Canal, and would not let the boat go without compensation.

Evergreen (the charterer) once proposed that the Suez Canal Authority could hold the ship and discuss compensation slowly with the British (insurance company) and Japanese (shipowner), and we unloaded the cargo first. Of course, the Egyptian side would reject such a plan.

At the beginning of May, Egypt saw that the 900 million compensation was worthless and voluntarily reduced it to 600 million. However, the British insurance company still said it was unreasonable. The Japanese (ship owner Masaei Steamboat) said that 150 million could not be more.

At the end of May, the Suez Canal Authority said again that the ship would be released after paying US$200 million.

Now, no one knows what the final number was. What is certain is that this money needs to be borne by the consignors.

Because on April 1, the Japanese shipowner of the Long Grant, Masei Steamship, officially announced a general average.

This also means that all shippers who have the goods on this ship have to bear the responsibility together, andall the goods must provide a guarantee before they reach the destination, otherwise the shipper will not be able to pick up the goods.

The full cargo volume of the Long Ci is 20,000 containers. This time it carried 18,300 containers. It sailed from Kaohsiung Port to Rotterdam Port. It was nearly full. The total value of the cargo on board was about 3.5 billion U.S. dollars. The ship has called Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Taipei, Yantian and other ports successively. According to estimates, 80% of the cargo on board comes from China.

Therefore, a large number of Chinese cargo owners are facing the embarrassing situation of "the goods are okay, but they have to lose money or give a letter of guarantee to pick up the goods".
